I started playing guitar when I was 16 years old. Within a short amount of time, I was playing in various bands in Little Rock, Arkansas before touring a bit nationally. By the time I reached my mid-20s, I was fortunate enough to join a band called The Romany Rye based out of Los Angeles. Through the combination of luck and visibility from touring, we had some amazing experiences. We even ended up in a Rolling Stone cover competition. Multiple Romany Rye songs are featured in Netflix’s Ozark seasons 3 and 4. The Counting Crows also covered “Untitled Love Song” on their 2012 record Underwater Sunshine.

After the Romany Rye, I formed a new band in Little Rock called Amasa Hines where I was a principle songwriter with my bandmates. I got to continue my musical pursuits and toured across the country, including performing at top music festivals such as Austin City Limits (ACL), Bonnaroo, Beale St. Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and many others. Our music has been in various films, tv shows, and ad campaigns. I helped produce and record two albums with Amasa Hines.

For over a decade, I’ve also performed with the band Funkanites which coincidentally features all but one of the members of Amasa Hines—and is a creative outlet to explore playing other genres from Afrobeat to Funk, Jazz, Soul, and everything in between. This band is set to release new music in 2023 and is the primary focus of my musical output.

During the pandemic, I started doing more session work playing guitar, bass, vocals, and some keys for various regional artists recording tracks and entire albums. I truly love this part of being a professional musician as it allows for more possibility to be creative and evolve how I might approach any song. If I could, I’d live in a recording studio.

Music Instruction

I originally sought a degree in music theory/jazz guitar when I first attended college before opting to hit the road on tour. I now hold a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in music theory/jazz guitar, marketing, and digital design. In recent years, I’ve picked up a number of guitar students and enjoy teaching fundamentals and advanced principles of guitar and music theory.
